Fun in the Snow with the Boutons!

Saturday Snowfall
Erin and I loved rainy days in Tampa because it gave you a great excuse to lie on the couch all day and do nothing. The equivalent in New Hampshire is to wake up to lightly falling snow and below zero temperatures. :)
We had an inch or two yesterday that put even more cover on the ground and is finally covering up the ice that is underneath. As you can imagine, the pups love the snow and we've included some shots of Morgan and her neighbor, Logan, who loves to run outside, roll around in the snow and then just plop down and take in the view.
It was so cold when these pics were taken that the plastic balls pictured would freeze while we were out there.
From Teen Court to this...
As many of you know, I helped Bob Bradshaw for several years with the Teen Court Program at Tampa Prep. And up here in New Hampshire we don't have a similar program, but we do have Harvard, which invited our students to participate in a mock trial to help train their 2nd and 3rd year law school students. Where was it held? Boston! One of the best things about teaching up here in New England is that you can easily find excuses to get into the city.
The kids had a great time and were witness to a professionally prepared murder case presided over by a real judge.
The weather on that day was the coldest day Boston has seen all year, and the wind was whipping around the building in gusts that measured below zero. Still, we were in Boston! It's a big step up from my field trips to the Scientology Headquarters in Clearwater. :)

Animal Cruelty?
Imagine getting ready for work every day and then peering back into the bedroom to see this remarkably sad face staring back at you. Notice how she is carefully positioned on my pajamas as if she was posing for a 21st century version of Andrew Wyeth's "Master's Bedroom".
The stories you've heard are true. On some days this sad pup is left alone in the house for up to 2 hours with no human contact due to our busy days at school. So heartless...

-35 degrees below 0
This is a shot of Lehmann house after a recent ice/sleet/snow(?) storm we had that left 1-2 inches of extremely slippery ice all over the school grounds. Thanks to my lovely wife, we both had "walkers" to slip on the bottom of our shoes to keep from falling over ever 2 feet. They have these cool springs on the bottom that grip the ice and keep you safe and secure. This is about as close as we've come to a real snow storm this extremely warm winter.
Our science department recently received a grant for a weather station that allows us to track all kinds of meteorological data like barometric pressure, wind speed, wind chill, etc. On the day this pic was taken our daytime low was 2 degrees and we had a -35 degree wind chill. The wind was so cold that you could feel this prickly or tingly sensation on your skin.

Where are they now?
What happened to the beautiful Christmas tree that we cut down with our very own hands? Well, it came down around New Year's Day and Erin's mom came up with the brilliant idea to leave it outside in the elements so we didn't have to say goodbye. Now it's sitting in the tree stand off to the side of our porch where we use it as a weather prediction system. In this shot, you can see that it is covered with ice, so we knew to expect icy conditions. Today it's covered in snow, so I'm imagining it snowed a bit last night. It's better than the Weather Channel. :)

Susan's Big Adventure
As I've mentioned in earlier posts, we decided to surprise Erin's mother with a day-trip to NYC since she had never seen a major city. She had also never hired a taxi, taken a train, seen a major skyline, and quite a few other things we were able to accomplish in our short time in the Big Apple. I love this shot of her in the tour bus because it really sums up her reaction to the shock of experiencing the greatest city on Earth (no, it's not Tampa) for the first time.
I'm also throwing in a couple other great shots of our fabulous day. Is it even possible to take a bad picture of Times Square?
